Anti- Aging Foods– Yes, Please!

Eating for Youth

Now for the foods!

ONE: Blueberries (one of my favourite fruits!)

It makes me youthful because…

In a landmark study published in 1999, researchers at Tufts University’s Jean Mayer Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging fed rats blueberry extract for a period of time that in “rat lives” is equivalent to 10 human years. These rats outperformed rats fed regular chow on tests of balance and coordination when they reached old age. Compounds in blueberries (and other berries) mitigate inflammation and oxidative damage, which are associated with age-related deficits in memory and motor function  (link)

TWO: Cocoa (See? Chocolate is healthy!)

it is unusually rich in flavanols that help preserve the healthy function of blood vessels. Maintaining youthful blood vessels lowers risk of high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease and dementia. (link)

THREE: Fish

Especially the oily kind, tuna, salmon, herring and sardines. These Brain Foods contain vitamins A, B, D and E and omega-3 to boost the immune system and maintain those gray cells. (link)

Like fatty fish, nuts are high in omega-3 fatty acids. They are also rich in antioxidants, including vitamin E. Antioxidants support healthy brain cell communication through the neurotransmitter pathways, and promote healthy blood circulation, especially throughout the vast network of tiny blood vessels of the brain, enabling you to stay focused, alert, and functioning at peak mental capacity. FOUR: Nuts and seeds

These contain good amounts of minerals, fat and antioxidants. Including nuts in your diet helps you to have a healthy skin, but boosts up your immune system and assist in combating several disorders. (link)
Great source of protein containing omega-3 and omega-6 oils. These protect against heart disease and stroke. They improve immunity and are a super anti aging food for the skin. (link)

FIVE: Beans (did I mention I love beans?)

Beans like black beans and black soybeans are high in anthocyanin. Anthocyanin is a water-soluble pigment, associated with flavinoids that help in curbing neurological and aging disorders. Soybeans contain isoflavones that are good sources of anti aging properties. (link)

SIX: Tea (苦口良药 you don’t have to understand what I wrote in chinese)

This might come as a surprise for most, but green tea is a best anti aging food for skin. It is also rich in the tannic acid and catechins that acts like an antioxidant. Green tea aids in maintaining beautiful and healthy skin.(link)

SEVEN: TOMATOES (Ketchup doesn’t count okay?!)

Tomatoes contain lycopene, a powerful weapon used by our body to combat free radicals. This neutralizes free radicals but aids in dealing with sun induced aging also. (link)

My mum is living proof of this!

EIGHT: Water (the drinking kind, not swimming pool kind

This is the most important component in anti aging diet for skin. It is must to keep your skin hydrated always. Water aids in eliminating unwanted wastes and toxins that are either produced or ingested into the body. You are recommended to drink at least 8 – 10 glasses of water daily. (link)

NINE: Watermelon (My favourite fruit of all time!)

This is the most effective anti aging food for healthy skin. It contains many nutrients like zinc, essential fats, selenium, vitamin E, vitamin C, vitamin B and vitamin A. These aid in combating against free radical damage and skin aging. (link)

TEN: Garlic (My favourite spice!)

There’s some korean herb television programme that talks about it performing miracles like helping old men and women to start growing black, not white, hair again, and about it curing diseases. This is another useful herb containing numerous health benefits. This is an efficient anti-inflammatory agent that combines to eliminate heavy metals from body and thereby helps in maintaining the ever glowing and healthy skin. (link)
