What I Ate on Wednesday (16) WIAW

.

.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who wonders how my parents met after (or even without) watching ‘How I Met Your Mother’.

I could ask “Where does the moon come from?” or “Who invented dust?” or “Where did I come from?” (answer: you burst out of a rock) and there would be an answer, but the answer to the question “How did you meet?” never managed to escape my tight-lipped parents.

.

A decade ago: (yes, I still remember. No one sane forgets what their parents tell them about how they met.)

Me: How did you and daddy meet?

Mum: We were at the seaside.

Me: Together?

Mum: No, separately.

Me: Then how did you meet?

Mum: He kicked a stone at me. It hurt. He said sorry. We met.

Me: Really?

Mum: (silence)

.

A few months ago:

.

Me: Daddy, how did you and mummy meet?

Daddy: I was in university. She was teaching kindergarten kids.

Me: So how did you meet?

Daddy:  She was teaching kindergarten kids.

Me: Mummy said something about the beach.

Daddy:  She was teaching kindergarten kids.

Me: So she was teaching kindergarten kids at the beach?

Daddy:  She was teaching kindergarten kids. (continued to ignore my question)

Me: (gave up and went to the more ‘reliable’ source)

.

1 minute later…

.

Me: Mummy, how did you and daddy meet?

Mummy: He was in university. I was working in a factory.

Me: (confused) But daddy said you were teaching kindergarten kids.

Mummy: No, I was working in a factory.

Me: Okay, didn’t you say you met at a beach?

Mummy: Huh? What beach?

Me: So how did you meet?

Mummy: Can’t remember.

Me: (walked away sadly from the ex-more ‘reliable’ source)

.

I’m sure you’ve had had better luck than me. If you were wondering why I didn’t push harder, it was because they were looking away from me and seemed to be thinking about something else which I presume was not regarding how they met.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

.

Today, I spent 10 hours baking new year pastries… from scratch. Its my first time baking so many so I was kinda slow. Its amazing that when I’m doing something I really like, time goes by so quickly. Everything comes so easily. Like my hands automatically know what to do, where to go next, what action to perform. I wish I could say the same about my academics. I may or may not have watched 20 episodes of a Taiwanese TV programme at the same time (as baking).

.

Here are the products! (Save for the 30+ that went into our tummies) Too bad some cracked. 😦

.

.

More about these tomorrow! 😀

.

Peas and Crayons
.

Have you ever seen a mountain of food? Let today be the day.

.

.

Nasi Lemak with (potato and ikan bilis),(sweet and sour fish),(weird bittergourd) with sambal.

.

.

A few of everything! (not those on the plate, those are just the nicer ones for photo-taking)

.

.

.

More tomorrow! Got to sleeeeep!

  1. those muffins look awesome!! if you have extras you can 4 sure send a few to our house 🙂

  2. Yay for a moutain of food! 😀 Hope your having a great day!

  3. That is the funniest story to me. I have no clue how my parents met. I do know my mom wore overalls on their first date because she tried to wash all her clothes right before, but the drier broke.
I’ve never asked my dad, though, so maybe that’s not the real story.

I love your hand written labels for the snacks!! “Bu Hao Kan De” made me laugh hahaha. I understand the feeling of eating all the ugly ones at home and giving away the nice looking ones though! 😛 And your posts make me want to visit Taiwan again! (:
